The Edmonton Oilers have forced a Game 6 in the Stanley Cup Final. After tallying eight goals in Game 4, the Oilers responded with a 5-3 win against the Florida Panthers in Game 5 on Tuesday.
For the second consecutive contest, the Oilers were facing elimination and managed to get off to a hot start. Much like he did on Saturday, Oilers star Connor McDavid thrived throughout the night with two goals and two assists to lead the way. Since being held off of the score sheet in Game 1, McDavid has racked up three goals and eight assists over his last four games, including back-to-back four-point performances.
Connor Brown, Zach Hyman, and Corey Perry all added a goal apiece to help take some of the pressure off of McDavid. It was a goal-scoring onslaught from the Oilers in Game 5, and that’s proved to be the theme over the past two games.
Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has given up at least four goals in back-to-back contests, and finally looks like he may be human. All of the sudden, the Oilers have seemed to find their stride on the offensive end of the ice, while Bobrovsky isn’t looking like the brick wall that he once did.
The Oilers will now have a chance to force a Game 7 if they can come up with a win on their home ice on Friday. If Stuart Skinner can make big saves down the stretch and McDavid continues to be on a heater, this series could be far from over.
